"Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer. But the words you speak come from the heart - that's what defiles you. From the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying and slander. These are what defile you, Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you." - Mathew 15: 17- 18 NLV
This is an aht aht aht moment where Jesus was sharing with his disciples on inner purity and focus on whats in the heart vs. Religious traditions. You see coming into the power and understanding of who Christ is and his decrees is like getting a spiritual makeover in Christ. Walking with Jesus means dismantling all that you ever knew. Jesus was breaking down all the laws and decrees and traditions from religious leads. What we eat has nothing to do with whats in our heart. Defile by Oxford language dictionary means to desecrate or profane.
As someone who was plant eater, pescatarian, for over 10 years, and decided to eat chicken doesn't make me less holy or more sinful person. What I love about walking with Christ is this freedom to righteous, NOT self righteous. It starts with whats in your heart, God is all knowing and can see and hear our every little thoughts. And his word is clear its not what we eat the defiles us, it's what comes out of our mouth!!! And we live in a society whereby we have to share every thought or comment or opinion. But ask yourself the things you speak; is from God or the evil one? Are you speaking life or death? One of the things I always ask God to lead my heart, mind, spirit and replenish me daily. If I see something let's say on social media - I have to ask my heavenly father for permission to speak up. If he says yes I will, If i don't hear from him in the moment I just won't comment. As a body of Christ we have to check ourselves in how we live and engage with people, because after all God is watching his kingdom ambassadors.
